Welcome to IUGRbaby
IUGRBaby is the only dedicated resource website to Intra Uterine Growth Restriction, known as IUGR.
This website, and the Intra Uterine Growth Restriction Association (IUGRA) evolved from a personal experience of lack of information and resources on the internet for parents of affected infants, and health professionals looking for support literature for their patients. My own interest in IUGR stems from the full term stillbirth of our first son Thomas in 2006. He had undetected IUGR, which contributed to his death.
IUGR is a common complication of pregnancy, but is all too often left undiagnosed. Babies who are suffering from IUGR are typically light for their gestation, and tragically in some cases the condition leads to the death of the baby in the womb, or IUD (Intra Uterine Death). Babies who die in the womb are classified as "stillborn", and the delivery of the baby is the same as for a live infant, bringing great tragedy, grief and despair to the families involved.
Over the pages of this website, IUGR is explored both from a medical and also personal perspective, and our “resources” section gives examples and links of current research and projects concerning IUGR.
